How hypnosis, meditation, flow, and trauma share the underlying processes of attention, dissociation, and automaticity—and why their differences still matter.

Why Willpower Is Not Enough

What more than twenty years of clinical work reveal about why conscious intention is insufficient when automatic patterns remain unchanged—and how absorbed experience reshapes those patterns and identity.

What Clinical Hypnosis Actually Does

How clinical hypnosis works through structured absorption and how it is used ethically to reshape entrenched patterns.

The Ethics of an Absorbed Life

How algorithms, notifications, groups, and persuasive systems compete to organize attention—and what it means to reclaim greater agency over what shapes us.

Short bio

John O. Wylie, CHt, is a clinical hypnotherapist, author, and originator and developer of the Unified Absorption Model. Drawing on more than two decades of clinical practice, his work examines how attention, dissociation, and automaticity organize experience—and how emotion steers the patterns that shape behavior, identity, and change. He is the author of the forthcoming book The Absorbed Mind: The Unified Absorption Model—A Framework for Consciousness and Change.
